Run Kochi

What is Run Kochi?

An annual sports camp partnership with Sporty Kochi, The Fourth Wave Foundation, and Sutherland Global that brings hundreds of children together, building a community through sports in India.

The first day program will be hosted in May, expecting to serve 250 children ages 7-14. Run Kochi will be scaled up to the full, one-week camp in September 2026, bringing back former and new athletes through teacher referrals.

Throughout the 7-day camp, we will provide two meals and an afternoon snack each day. Every kid walks away from camp with health education, community resources, and daily sports-driven teachings around Indian cultural values.

Impact

Health Education

We plan to work with local, youth health organizations to provide feminine hygiene education and supplies to empower female participants. The fourth wave foundation will work with the male participants to promote respect of women and safety from illicit drug use.

Food & Water

We serve two meals and an afternoon snack across each of the seven days, totaling 3,500 meals and 1,750 snacks for over 250 kids. Physical activity exists alongside healthy habits, emphasizing the needs to fuel your body.

Value-Based Learning

Each day we centered our programming – including team activities, speakers, and debriefs – around community-identified values within sport (Teamwork, Resilience, Problem Solving, Health & Wellness, and Good Turn). For us, sports provide another vehicle for education of values that will impact their lives on and off the track.

We provided a safe, structured, and welcoming space for our kids. Utilizing school breaks, the programs provide an opportunity to get active outside of school. With a strong focus for academics in Kochi, opportunities for physical education are limited due to the lack of prioritization in local schools. Passionate, local coaches will teach kids the basics of stretching, running, and play in popular sports.

Inclusion

Children with disabilities from the Assisi Special School participate alongside able-bodied children from the start. Working alongside their physical/occupational therapist, programming has been made to include and integrate kids of all abilities.
